Regarding fictitious business names, the web page http://business.gov/register/business-name/dba.html says that "Corporations, LLCs, LLPs, and limited partnerships register an assumed name as part of their required business filings with the California Secretary of State."

The California Secretary of State says that this is not true, that all businesses files ficititious business statements at the county level.

Just reporting this, unless anyone knows anything to the contrary.

Kudos!

Yes, that's the correct.  Any business wanting to do business under an assumed name in California has to register in the county where the business is located.

Thanks for pointing this out.  We were actually in the process of updating the DBA page and doing our routine audit for accuracy and clarity.  The DBA page has been updated to reflect existing requirements in California and other states.

Kudos!
